Marcel Lapierre 2006 Gamay (Morgon)
Price
$22
Lapierre bottled two versions of this wine, one using no sulfur, one using some sulfur. It makes a fascinating contrast, but this version without sulfur is inevitably the better, not losing one iota of the ripe fruit, the rich cherries and immediately attractive bonbon and candy flavors.

Marcel Lapierre 2007 Vieilles Vignes Gamay (Morgon)
Bottled unfiltered, this shows extravagant fruit, very rich, black cherry in character, with tannins that veer between serious structured concentration and balanced with the fruit. The texture is sweet, the fruit deliciously ripe, showing good concentration as well as an exuberant play between acidity and fruit.

Marcel Lapierre 2007 Gamay (Morgon)
Price
$30
From biodynamic producer Marcel Lapierre, this is probably as good as it got in 2007. It’s a rich wine, concentrated, although the crisp fruits of the year tend to dominate. There are raspberry flavors, very pure, very fresh, but with some good depth of flavor.

Marcel Lapierre 2009 Raisins Gaulois Gamay (Vin de Table Francais)
Online Exclusive
A Gamay-based wine from one of the leading Morgon producers. Soft tannins, red cherry flavors and a touch of banana are enlivened by fine acidity on the finish.
