Marchesato degli Aleramici 1999 Riserva Sangiovese (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $60
Despite starting out a bit mute, what lurks below is nothing short of stellar. Fine black licorice and ripe, meaty fruit creates a dark, manly flavor profile, while the finish deals a layer cake’s worth of fudge, vanilla and espresso. Virtually anything you would want in a Brunello is here. Imported by Lauber Imports.  — M.S.  (7/1/2005)

This Brunello Riserva shows a very rich and dark side thanks to its firm structure and integrated acidity. Blackberry and dark fruit tones are backed by dense concentration and extraction. Bets are on that this wine will age beautifully over time.  — M.L.  (4/1/2011)

Marchesato degli Aleramici 2006 Riserva Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $75
There’s an exotic, spicy element here that gives this riserva a unique and compelling quality. Coffee, espresso and bitter chocolate also identify it. The mouthfeel is dry and tight, suggesting long aging potential. More than fruit, this wine shows tertiary aromas and crushed mineral in the mouth.  — M.L.  (5/1/2012)

Marchesato degli Aleramici 2000 Sangiovese (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $45
Wonderful, almost flowery, perfume on the nose. There are also hints of men’s cologne and lemon peel. Chewy and meaty across the palate, where black cherry and plum dominate. The finish shows ample oak, chocolate and butter. Will be round and easy upon maturity, which should come in a couple of years. Imported by Lauber Imports.  — M.S.  (7/1/2005)

Marchesato degli Aleramici 2006 Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $60
Refined and elegant, you could easily characterize this as a feminine expression of Brunello. It is redolent of forest fruit, white chocolate, dried violets, resin, tar and a touch of smoked bacon. In the mouth, it shows a sharp, fine quality that is enhanced by natural freshness.  — M.L.  (4/1/2011)

Marchesato degli Aleramici 1999 Sangiovese (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $45
True yet reserved, with a full nose that deals a total package rather than parts. Dried cherry, raspberry and leathery tannins are softened by a hint of vanillin. The finish is spicy and lengthy. Tannic, but will come together more if given five years.  — M.S.  (6/1/2004)

Marchesato degli Aleramici 2004 Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $60
Here is an austere and sophisticated Brunello that delivers aged aromas of old spice and pipe tobacco that make the wine seem older than it is. Those aromas are backed by licorice, black truffle, black currant and cassis. The mouthfeel it thick, chewy and long-lasting.  — M.L.  (6/1/2009)

Marchesato degli Aleramici 2007 Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

  1. $45
There’s a progression of aromas here, with some bright candied fruit alongside rum cake, dried ginger, licorice and forest floor. The fruit component resembles crème de cassis and red currant. Despite all that pretty movement in the bouquet, the wine is lean and bright in the mouth, and gets the job done in terms of keeping the palate refreshed.  — M.L.  (5/1/2012)
