Margan 2005 Saignée Rosé Shiraz (Hunter Valley)

Floral aromas—particularly honeysuckle—are complemented by sweet peaches and pears. But it’s not all about fruit, there’s a minerally streak of lime or chalk that runs through the flavors. A laser-like beam of lemony acidity offsets a rich, thick mouthfeel.

I like this wine for what it isn’t—brash or sweet. Tannins are smooth and manageable, with mushroom and stable notes accenting firm plum and cherry flavors. A little soft on the palate, with a bite of herb at the finish, but it’s nearly as enjoyable as the winery’s excellent Cabernet. Imported by Southern Starz, Inc.
