Mariah 1999 Merlot (Mendocino Ridge)

  1. $30
Here's a wine that could teach certain regions to the south a thting or two. Fully ripened fruit contains nary a hint of those bothersome vegetal notes. Instead, plush blackberry flavors are packed into a balanced wine of proper acids and dry, dusty, tannins. this is quite an accomplishment and adds luster to the reputation of its appellation.  — S.H.  (5/1/2002)

Mariah 2001 Zinfandel (Mendocino Ridge)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $30
Say hello to this marvelously ripe, cheerful Zin. It totally turns you on. The marvelously ripe flavors range from sweet cherries to a baked blackberry tart dusted with cinnamon and cocoa, and finished with a bite of fig. Soft, unctuous tannins, rich acids, total balance. Released simultaneously with the ‘00, but so much better at the same price.  — S.H.  (2/1/2005)

Mariah 2002 Zinfandel (Mendocino Ridge)

  1. $35
Created as a Zinfandel specialist, Mariah produces exquisitely crafted, although big-boned, Zins from this high-altitude appellation. The wine is dry and balanced, with a rich earthiness to the blackberry, coffee and tobacco flavors. It’s also very tannic, and needs to be served with the right fare. Lamb and duck come to mind.  — S.H.  (5/1/2006)

Mariah 2001 Poor Ranch Vineyard Zinfandel (Mendocino)

  1. $35
A very good Zin that’s more tannic than Mariah’s Mendocino Ridge wines, and a little less concentrated in fruit. Nonetheless, it’s dry, big-hearted and warming in berries and spices.  — S.H.  (2/1/2005)

Mariah 1999 Zinfandel (Mendocino Ridge)

  1. $31
Dark in color and dense in aroma, with plummy, blackberry, woody notes. Tastes big and rich and deep, a wine to accompany roasted meat and game. This winery is making an attempt to establish itself as a first-growth Zin house, and bears watching. —S.H.  — S.H.  (5/1/2002)

Mariah 2003 Zinfandel (Mendocino Ridge)

  1. $25
Soft, complex and delicious, this Zin comes from mountain vineyards grown high above the fogs of Anderson Valley, where the sun ripens the grapes well. The wine is lush and complex, with black currant, mocha and spice flavors that are so ripe they suggest rum-soaked raisins.  — S.H.  (11/15/2006)

Mariah 2000 Zinfandel (Mendocino Ridge)

  1. $30
Black as night, gooey as sweet ice cream syrup, flooded with cherry, blackberry and mocha flavors, yet totally dry. So filled with fruity richness, so soft in tannins, it’s addictively drinkable.  — S.H.  (2/1/2005)
