Mario Gagliasso 2007 Torriglione Nebbiolo (Barolo)

Representing a stylistic departure with the past, this edition of Barolo Torriglione offers enormous density and richness lavished over a core of ripe fruit, chocolate, spice and cola. You’ll enjoy the wonderful fullness in the mouth and the spicy, fresh close.  — M.L.  (9/1/2011)

This is a gorgeous wine on many fronts. Firstly, its aromas of wild berry, smoke and cedar are focused and pristine. Secondly, the texture it imparts in the mouth is dense, firm but ultimately yielding and plush. Lastly, the wine’s fresh flavors endure for many minutes.  — M.L.  (2/1/2010)

Mario Gagliasso 2004 Riserva Nebbiolo (Barolo)

Elegance and finesse characterize this wine and suggest that it may already be suitable to drink within the next five years or so. Aromas include dark chocolate, tar, espresso grinds and smoked beef. Those aged tertiary fragrances are emerging now and the wine is thick, firm and luscious on the close.  — M.L.  (12/1/2010)

Mario Gagliasso 2007 Rocche dell'Annunziata Nebbiolo (Barolo)

In step with the bold and intense characteristics associated with the popular 2007 vintage, this beautiful Barolo offers aromas of smoked bacon, black cherry, black olive and worn leather. It delivers a touch of sweetness within its tight, dense tannins.  — M.L.  (9/1/2011)

Mario Gagliasso 2005 Riserva Nebbiolo (Barolo)

Here’s a meaty, masculine Barolo Riserva that is redolent of barbecue smoke, mesquite, teriyaki sauce, bresaola and candied fruit. There’s a gritty, sandy quality to the tannins that would cut through roast pork stuffed with prunes.  — M.L.  (9/1/2011)

Mario Gagliasso 2006 Rocche dell'Annunziata Nebbiolo (Barolo)

  • Online Exclusive
This Barolo from the Rocche dell’Annunziata cru displays slightly aged aromas of spice, candied fruit, cola and root beer despite its young age. Its ruby color shows a browning edge and the wine is elegant and fine. “Old school” seems like a fitting descriptor.  — M.L.  (12/1/2010)

Mario Gagliasso 2006 Torriglione Nebbiolo (Barolo)

The overt ripeness of the fruit here presents a slight obstacle at first sniff. Once that is overcome, the wine offers a free range of blackberry, cassis, tar, leather and tobacco-like aromas. But, in the mouth you’ll taste the jamminess and maturity of the fruit. It’s a smooth, soft wine with a long strawberry fade.  — M.L.  (12/1/2010)
