Marques de la Concordia 2004 Hacienda de Susar Red (Rioja)

  1. $42
In 2001 (the best Rioja vintage prior to 2004) this wine cost $15 and rated 87 points. Now it’s $42 and it’s worth it. Smooth and inviting on the nose, with coconut, toast and black fruit aromas. In a word, the bouquet is inviting. And the palate seals the deal; there’s a creamy feel and loads of fruit and vanilla to fill the gaps. Drink now through 2009.  — M.S.  (4/1/2008)

  1. $50
Smoky aromas of leather, balsam wood, tobacco and berry fruit are totally appealing. The palate is full and tight, with ripe flavors of berry and plum accented by coconut, vanilla and chocolate, all of which come courtesy of new oak. Smooth and classy on the finish; pretty much everything reads right here. Tempranillo, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.  — M.S.  (12/15/2011)

Marques de la Concordia 2008 Hacienda Abascal Producción Limitada Tempranillo (Ribera del Duero)

  1. $45
Dark and loaded with big black fruit aromas, tobacco, spice and a lot of vanilla from copious oaking. The palate is good and juicy, with a healthy blend of blackberry, fig and chocolate flavors. Toasty, round and chocolaty on an oaky, creamy finish.  — M.S.  (10/1/2011)

Marques de la Concordia 2004 Reserva Tempranillo (Rioja)

  1. $19
There’s no denying the wine’s raisiny ripeness; it’s confirmed via Sherry/Port aromas and black plum/baked fruit flavors. But it’s not simply a heavyweight on its last legs. To the contrary, the wine delivers a jolt of core intensity and finishing notes of spicy black pepper and licorice. Drink right away.  — M.S.  (4/1/2008)

Marques de la Concordia 2004 Durius Magister MMIV Red (Arribes del Duero)

  1. $48
Dark and tight, with plenty of resiny oak on the nose along with rich, meaty black-fruit aromas. The blend is 40% Tempranillo with 20% each of Cabernet, Merlot and Malbec. The result amounts to size and a cushioned, ripe mouthfeel. Despite the Cab’s presence, it’s still a bit low on acid, so it tips the scale toward heavy. Drink now through 2011.  — M.S.  (6/1/2008)

Marques de la Concordia 2004 Durius Natural Reserve Syrah (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León)

  1. $34
Much like the Durius Tempranillo-Merlot blend, this Syrah is made in a well-oaked, international style. The fruit is forward and lush, and the oak is spicy, sweet and leans toward cinnamon and vanilla. Grapey and ripe across the palate and then toasty, peppery and chocolaty on the finish.  — M.S.  (11/15/2008)

Marques de la Concordia 2004 Durius Natural Reserve Tempranillo-Merlot (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León)

  1. $34
Dark, well oaked and slightly bretty, this blend of Tempranillo and Merlot is structured but smooth. It pours on the blackberry, chocolate and spice flavors and backs them up with a chocolaty, mildly herbal finish. A bit chunky and awkward but a full-bodied, honest effort. Drink now–2010.  — M.S.  (6/1/2008)

Marques de la Concordia 2005 Signa Reserva Tempranillo (Rioja)

  1. $20
Floral and a touch sweet smelling, with exotic spice, leather and earthy aromas. It’s medium-bodied, with a bit of chunkiness offset by good acidity. Tastes of herbs, fresh tomato, pepper and red fruits. Juicy, tight and leathery on the finish.  — M.S.  (12/15/2011)
