Marqués de Reala 2006 Grenache (Campo de Borja)
Best Buy
Price
$9
Bona fide Best Buys aren’t as ubiquitous as they once were, so take note of this affordable Garnacha from northeast Spain. The wine features clean aromas of dried fruits, spice and licorice. The palate is just as proper, with sweet plum and berry flavors. It may be a tiny bit screechy and gritty, but we’re talking $9 here, so get on board.

Marqués de Reala 2004 Grenache (Campo de Borja)
Price
$9
Young and open, with light red-fruit aromas on the candied bouquet. Nothing complicated here; just snappy raspberry and candy flavors followed by a gritty, sugary finish. Standardfare Garnacha from a warm climate.

Marqués de Reala 2003 Rosado Grenache (Campo de Borja)
Best Buy
Price
$7
Heavier than ideal, with earthy berry aromas and accents of cinnamon. Overly ripe, with a lot of meat, pepper and baked berry flavors. Has its merits and faults.

Marqués de Reala 2003 Tinto Grenache (Campo de Borja)
Best Buy
Price
$7
Very sweet, with cherry cola and licorice nibs comprising the nose. It’s nothing more than simple Garnacha, which means it’s all about red fruit and sunshine. Not a fine wine, but good for those with a sweet tooth.

Marqués de Reala 2006 Rosé Grenache (Campo de Borja)
Online Exclusive
Price
$9
Sweet and chunky, like Hawaiian Punch. This is heavy and unctuous at this stage of evolution, with raspberry and ripe melon flavors. Round and no longer edgy. Wait for the 2007.

Marqués de Reala 2005 Joven White (Campo de Borja)
Online Exclusive
Price
$9
Sort of waxy and odd, with heavy floral notes but no discernible fruit on the nose. The taste profile runs all over the map, first offering lumbering spiced apple and then things that are totally foreign to white wine, i.e. wax. Not impressive.

Marqués de Reala 2005 Rosé Joven Grenache (Campo de Borja)
Online Exclusive
Price
$9
Overly soft and deep in color, with heavy caramel and red licorice aromas. With no edges and little acidity, the wine seems flat. In addition, it finishes with bitterness as well as sugary sweetness. Imported by Quality Wines of Spain.
