Marqués del Puerto 1996 Seleccion Especial MM - Reserva Red (Rioja)

  1. $40
A rich but dusty wine, with aromas of grilled meat and steak sauce. Lush plum and currant fruit features a hint of salinity in the mouth. The tannins are well integrated, yielding a wine that is drinkable now but will last to 2010.  — W.E.  (11/1/2002)

Marqués del Puerto 1999 Crianza Tempranillo (Rioja)

  1. $12
This Tempranillo combines red raspberries with chalky minerals and a touch of white pepper. Flavors of grilled meat go along with raspberry fruit, then the wine finishes smooth, soft and even.  — C.S.  (11/1/2002)

Marqués del Puerto 1985 Roman Paladino Gran Reserva Red (Rioja)

  1. $130
A nice Rioja nose of strawberries and creamy oak. After 15 years it has held onto its power. A little lean in the body; the palate has a snappy berry flavor accented by licorice and herbs. Favorably speaking, the finish is streamlined and precise, however, some might read it as tart and lean.  — W.E.  (8/1/2000)

Marqués del Puerto 1994 Seleccion Especial MM Reserva Red (Rioja)

Black cherry is featured prominently on the oaky nose. Strawberry, cherry, and red currant are all part of the fruity flavor profile. A little lean in the mouth, but juicy and flashy as it fades away. Nice and friendly, and a proper textbook taste of the region.  — W.E.  (8/1/2000)

Marqués del Puerto 2003 Rosado Red (Rioja)

  • Best Buy
  1. $10
Big and colorful, with strawberry and rubber aromas. A good amount of citrus and raspberry creates a lengthy palate that forces its game on you. Not a strong finish, but nice along the way.  — M.S.  (9/1/2004)

Marqués del Puerto 1995 Reserva Red (Rioja)

  1. $17
Neutral and muted at first, with just a mild hint of dried spices and cherry fruit. Then it opens up a little to reveal a defined but tart cherry-driven palate. Seems extremely crisp at the end, almost as if it’s already drying out. Probably better with hearty food.  — W.E.  (8/1/2000)

Marqués del Puerto 1996 Reserva Red (Rioja)

  1. $13
Tasty and tart, with interesting aromas of vanilla and lemon meringue pie. Strawberry flavors were zesty and accented with a little cedar. Drink and enjoy now.  — C.S.  (11/1/2002)
