Martino 2009 Old Vine Malbec (Mendoza)

  1. $19
A winning Malbec for under $20. The nose is pure and hits with a blast of licorice, tobacco, cola, blackberry and dry balsam wood. The palate is driving, with blackberry, black plum and pepper flavors. Potent but balanced on the way out. Drink now and over the next couple of years.  — M.S.  (11/1/2011)

Martino 2006 Old Vine Malbec (Mendoza)

  1. $19
Very nice Malbec from vines with up to 80 years of age. The nose is briary, earthy and deep, with purity and power. And the palate is juicy, lively and packs enticing flavors of plum, blackberry, cured meat and vanilla. Warming, ripe stuff. Delicious and ready to drink.  — M.S.  (2/1/2010)

Martino 2008 Reserva Old Vine Malbec (Agrelo)

  1. $29
Blackberry and rubber aromas are friendly and forward, with spice added in for good measure. Feels full, lush and cushioned, with integrated tannins, good acidity and bright red berry flavors dusted by herbs and spice. Finishes smooth and true. A winning wine from a difficult vintage.  — M.S.  (3/1/2012)

Martino 2002 Old Vines Malbec (Mendoza)

  1. $55
Deep mocha and coffee greet you on the nose, backed by intense fruit and lavender aromas. And in between you catch some perfume and lilac. Rich and creamy in the mouth, with a full allotment of berry fruits, including blueberry and blackberry. Finishes a bit oaky and short, but that’s a small complaint.  — M.S.  (11/15/2004)

Martino 2002 Malbec (Luján de Cuyo)

  1. $19
Herbal and spicy, with lactic notes and ripe blueberry aromas. Quite fruity and sprawling, with big plum and berry flavors. Thick in the mouth and large on the finish, with syrup and just enough acid to keep it balanced. Imported by Southern Wine Group.  — M.S.  (12/31/2005)

Martino 2007 Old Vine Malbec (Mendoza)

  1. $19
Spicy and scratchy on the bouquet, with clove, leather and dried berry fruit aromas. The acidity seems a touch sharp, and thus the palate has a prickly, spiky feel along with firm flavors of red plum and cherry. Good and aggressive, but also somewhat of a burner with a scouring feel.  — M.S.  (11/1/2010)

Martino 2011 Old Vine Sémillon (Mendoza)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $16
Clean but pointed on the nose, with a trio of aromas comprising peach, melon and lemon. Feels good and cleansing, with zesty acidity and fresh, clean flavors of apple, lemon and orange. Remains clean and crisp on the back end, with nothing funky or waxy entering the picture.  — M.S.  (3/1/2012)

Martino 2003 Malbec (Mendoza)

  1. $19
Heavier than in the past, with foresty aromas offset by oak-based bacon and vanilla notes. This ranks as a medium to big effort, and it comes with black cherry and dark plum flavors. But on the mid and back palate the wine falls off quickly, leaving little finish and some raisin.  — M.S.  (5/1/2007)
