Mas de la Barben 2003 Calice Red (Coteaux du Languedoc)
Price
$36
We first tasted this wine back in March 2008, and it seems to have aged quite a bit since then. Stewed strawberry and rhubarb along with sanguine notes on the nose, followed by riper flavors of fig preserves and spice in the mouth and finish. Good acidity and softened tannins make this wine a good choice to drink now.

Mas de la Barben 1998 Syrah (Coteaux du Languedoc)
Price
$12
Cedar, cherry cola, chamomile tea and sour cherry notes on the nose make for a piquant, unusual bouquet. The wine’s flavors (black oak, spice, leather and cherry) are more Chianti-like than Syrah-like. A short woody finish left us wishing for more.
