Máté 2007 Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)
Price
$70
The ripe fruit element is perfectly contained and just short of seeming overdone or jammy. It’s soft and round, with loads of oak-driven spice, like cinnamon and ground clove, and plump tones of red cherry, blackberry and plum. What’s really nice is the freshness and overall supple texture.

Máté 2006 Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

Owned by an expat artist/writer couple, Máté shows a great evolution of style and grace over the past years. This 2006 Brunello straddles modernity and tradition with a playful juxtaposition of wild berry and raspberry aromas against vanilla, clove and cinnamon spice.

Máté 2004 Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)
The Canadian owners of Máté lead a blessed life between painting, writing and grape-growing. The product of their Tuscan dream is a bold and modern wine that is shaped by sophisticated oak use and rich extraction. Deep aromas of vanilla, spice and blackberry ride over smooth tannins.

Máté 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon (Sant'Antimo)
Price
$45
Chocolate, cherry, spice and wood shavings are the leading aromas emitted from this hearty Cabernet Sauvignon. Despite its power, it is a beautiful wine with lasting herbal fragrances splashed over tight, firm tannins. This is a big, brawny wine that could overpower many foods, so pair it with grilled beef or roasts.

Máté 2005 Banditone Syrah (Sant'Antimo)
Price
$55
This 100% Syrah is aged 24 months in barrique and consequently opens with a solid wall of new wood that will require at least five years to integrate, but soft cherry nuances and delicate mineral shadings promise good things to those who wait.
