For a value-priced wine this scores well. The nose offers a nice mix of earth, warmth and berry fruit, while the palate is juicy, fresh and tastes of zesty berry. Composed on the finish, which is also fresh and lively. Perfect for by-the-glass or casual consumption.  — M.S.  (8/1/2010)

Dusty plum and black cherry aromas feature a touch of dry oak. Tight, snappy and properly tannic in the mouth, with full berry, baked plum and background spice flavors. Finishes with control and power; good red wine for the price.  — M.S.  (2/1/2012)

Berry fruit and mild leather open this good little bargain. There’s adequate body and fullness, some oak, and then bright, fresh berry, herb and spice flavors. Finishes dry and lightly toasted, with coffee notes.  — M.S.  (4/1/2011)

Just like the previous vintage, this is a melony, fresh wine with apple aromas backed by a semi-creamy palate of peach and banana. It has a soft outlook but it isn’t flabby, and thus a slight finishing note of powdered sugar and vanilla frosting seems right. Imported by Frederick Wildman & Sons, Ltd. Give this wine credit for consistency: in the three years it’s been on the market it has scored the same each vintage. This offering is soft, fleshy and slightly green on the nose, with a wet, easy palate that gives mild citrus, apple and peach flavors. Good in the mouth, with just enough acidity to keep it kicking.  — M.S.  (4/1/2011)

This ranks as a good no-frills white wine from central Spain. Viura is at its best when it’s crisp, clean and tastes like apples and honeydew. And for the most part, that’s exactly what this is. There’s freshness and scour, but it’s not acidic or sharp. Still, best to drink it as soon as possible.  — M.S.  (4/1/2009)

Crisp, clean white wine with few bells and whistles but also no faults. The palate is fresh, light-bodied and fit, with apple, citrus and a juicy lime-driven finish. Very fresh and quaffable.  — M.S.  (7/1/2011)

Maximo 2006 Tempranillo (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla)

Dark and a touch murky, with earthy aromas of black cherry, leather and forest floor. The palate is well sized and feels healthy, while the flavors of plum and blackberry are slightly herbal. Shows pop, length and some bitterness on the finish. A regular wine for regular occasions.  — M.S.  (4/1/2009)
