Lemony, with the tiniest touch of sweetness, McFadden’s Riesling is nicely balanced between acidity and fruit, with a slightly nutty flavor.  — V.B.  (12/31/2011)

McFadden Vineyard NV Brut Sparkling (Potter Valley)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $25
Though nonvintage, 100% of the half Chardonnay and half Pinot Noir grapes in this sparkling blend hail from 2009, a nice vintage for Mendocino. With a yeasty nose this Brut is all green apple tartness with high notes of acidity, and very dry. As it opens it gets more fragrant, pleasantly tasting of honeysuckle, nectarine and sweet fig.  — V.B.  (2/1/2012)

Pungently perfumed, all lemon, mandarin orange and spice, this Gewürztraminer is moderately textured and aromatically pretty, an interesting companion to spicy food but also the myriad of flavors found around a holiday meal.  — V.B.  (12/31/2011)

McFadden’s SB is a fine, easy drinker, light in weight and feel, like a lemon custard in summer. Have it with fish or chicken and be happy.  — V.B.  (12/31/2011)

McFadden Vineyard 2007 Pinot Noir (Potter Valley)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $19
McFadden’s ’07 Pinot may not be aging gracefully in this case. It’s got an earthy edge to it still but not much fruit, the organically grown grapes a touch acidic and bitter.  — V.B.  (12/31/2011)
