Smooth and cool in the nose, with a touch of menthol topping off fragrant blackberry. The palate is searingly fresh, courtesy of bright acids and even brighter ripe grapes. Some tasty cocoa and coffee derived from well-integrated oak adds character the finish. Full-bodied but not even bordering on flabby.

Australia isn’t really known for its Merlots, but this effort is quite delicious—and what a bargain. Black-cherry and blackberry fruit smacks you in the face; the fresh bright flavors, with licorice undertones, meld into a mouthfeel that’s soft and silky.

From the outset to the long finish, there’s a lot to like in this sweet jammy Shiraz. Berry, cherry, chocolate and a touch of cassis abound. The structure is soft, the mouthfeel is even and joyous. A killer barbecue red, anything not too complicated on the grill would be a good match.

Here's a value Shiraz that shows astonishing depth in the nose, with intriguing cedar, tobacco and vanilla notes wafting through. Sweet fruit leads the palate, with an interesting, leafy mix of tobacco and herbs after. Soft, with well-managed tannins, it's ready to go and a perfect everyday "go-to" bottle.
