Meander 2005 Morisoli Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (Rutherford)

Outstanding. Ultra-ripe and lush, but very dry, showing powerful, long hangtime flavors of black and red sour cherries, currants, violets and cedar, wrapped into dense, melted tannins. Almost Porty, but stops short of overripeness to finish with dramatic richness. The vineyard is adjacent to Rubicon’s, in the heart of the Rutherford bench.

Continues Meander’s great track record with this bottling. Sweet, toasty new oak and ripe flavors of cherries and cocoa combine to give this Cabernet irresistible deliciousness. It’s as sweet as a fruit tart, but fully dry on the finish. Meanwhile, firm, dusty tannins give it a pleasurable resistance, suggesting time in the cellar. Give it a good 6–7 years.

The Morisoli Vineyard has been home to very good, ageable bottlings from the likes of Sequoia Grove and Elyse, but in the last few years, Meander has expressed its terroir best…
