Mercer Estates 2008 Spice Cabinet Vineyard Petit Verdot (Horse Heaven Hills)

  1. $33
Far and away the best of the newly released single vineyard red wines from Mercer Estates, this tightly wound Petit Verdot sports firm plum and cassis fruit, wreathed in smoky earth, black tea, licorice and dark chocolate. Delicious now, or cellar it for a few extra years.  — P.G.  (2/1/2012)

Mercer Estates 2007 Chardonnay (Columbia Valley (WA))

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $17
Very pleasant, relatively light, showing a pretty mix of citrus and tropical fruit, fresh cream, light toast and a hint of cinnamon. The alcohol rests at 14.1% but feels a bit lighter, and the wine has a pleasing ripeness without becoming fat or heavy.  — P.G.  (9/1/2009)

Mercer Estates 2009 Riesling (Yakima Valley)

  • Best Buy
  1. $14
Rather delicate, with 12.6% alcohol yet a distinctly dry mouthfeel, this well-crafted Riesling mingles green apple, pear, lemon zest, grapefruit and melon fruit flavors. Good length and texture, with lemon tea flavors to wrap it up.  — P.G.  (9/1/2011)

Mercer Estates 2007 Riesling (Yakima Valley)

  1. $15
Succulent and deliciously juicy, this is a near-perfect expression of mainstream Washington Riesling. It is a sappy, tangy, lip-smacking wine, expressing ripe apples, Asian pear and lovely hints of grapefruit, pineapple and citrus.  — P.G.  (12/1/2008)

Mercer Estates 2008 Pinot Gris (Columbia Valley (WA))

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $15
Rounder and more fruity than the inaugural 2007 Pinot Gris, this has succulent green apple and Bosch pear flavors balanced against crisp, refreshing acids.  — P.G.  (9/1/2009)

Mercer Estates 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon (Columbia Valley (WA))

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $24
This tastes like pure varietal Cabernet; it’s stiff and tightly wound, and the Horse Heaven Hills fruit has big, drying tannins. Give it some breathing time and it begins to broaden out, showing thin streaks of smoke and iron, along with brambly berry and cassis. This has the structure to age, and should develop further in the bottle over the near term.  — P.G.  (9/1/2011)

Mercer Estates 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon (Horse Heaven Hills)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $24
This is soundly made, with good balance, some herbal/olive character, and a medium-bodied midpalate. Some of the licorice and coffee comes through, but with more structure than the 2005 Cabernet from Mercer Estates.  — P.G.  (9/1/2009)

Mercer Estates 2008 McKinley Springs Vineyard Syrah (Horse Heaven Hills)

  1. $33
Quite oaky, the barrel flavors not yet integrated into the fruit, this starts out rough, then rolls into clean, light, pleasant boysenberry fruit flavors. Should continue to improve with more time in the bottle.  — P.G.  (2/1/2012)
