Shows a certain aggressiveness, offering up vibrant raspberry and cherry fruit, cola, mocha and oak flavors, but kept aloof by its acidity and tannins. It’s certainly elegant and pedigreed, but it need 3–4 years in the cellar.

Merry Edwards doesn’t just slap this regional blend together. This is a combination of her best vineyards. It’s a wonderful wine, dry, balanced and deep in berry, spice, cola and earthy flavors. In many ways, it’s the consummate Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. Drink now–2015.

This Chardonnay shows the ripe fruit and tangy acidity derived from this cool-climate vineyard. It bears tart apricot, orange and mineral flavors, balanced by oaky notes of vanilla and buttered toast. Drink now.

Dark as night, clearly a concentrated wine. Brooding aromas are dominated by smoky oak, although under that are cherry, chocolate, olive and herb scents. Explodes in the mouth, filling the palate with richness and authority. Tannic and acidic now, but with a core of cherry fruit worth aging. —S.H.

Pretty similar to the Klopp bottling, with herbal notes suggesting coffee, earth, mushrooms and tobacco, and fruitiness just veering into cherry. Has much the same tannic and acidic structure, firm and masculine. A trace of bitterness calls for the richest possible foods. —S.H.

An impressive wine for its compelling interest. It’s fruit-rich, suggesting cherries and pomegranates, with notes of rhubarb, black tea and dried herbs that ride in waves across the palate. Oak contributes nuances but is not strong. Extremely dry, with bright acidity, this wine will develop additional complexities for a few years.

From the southern, cooler part of the valley, but on a sunny ridge above the fog, a fascinating study in contrasts. It has brilliantly crisp, citrusy acidity, but is a fat, fleshy wine, with mouthwatering flavors of black cherries, cola, mocha and gingersnap. The scour of dusty tannins on the finish suggests this wine will hold for several years.

Shows the characteristics of young vines, a jammy, forward fruitiness, offering a wealth of black cherry, blueberry, currant and raspberry flavors that are wrapped into fine tannins and brightened with crisp acids. This is a vineyard to watch as the vines achieve age.
