Michel Torino 2007 Don David Reserve Syrah (Cafayate)

  1. $17
Tight, concentrated and deep, with rubbery aromas of black fruit and earth. The palate is rich and layered, with lemony oak setting up herbal, powerful berry fruit flavors that come with hints of tea and briar. Zesty as well as rich, and well balanced. Nicely done for Salta Syrah.  — M.S.  (8/1/2010)

Michel Torino 2004 Don David Reserve Malbec (Cafayate)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $15
Inky black in color, with a pretty nose defined by toast, minerality, stout plum and berry fruit. Round and vigorous in the mouth, with vibrant dark-berry flavors. A muscled-up wine from Salta with just enough finesse to balance everything out. Ready to drink.  — M.S.  (12/15/2006)

Michel Torino 2008 Don David Reserve Torrontés (Cafayate)

  1. $16
A more serious and oily version of Torrontés than what one usually encounters. This is a balanced, semi-sophisticated white with roundness and ample flavors of gooseberry, lychee and green banana. It holds steady through the finish, and the weight is up there but not fat. Drink now.  — M.S.  (11/1/2009)

Michel Torino 2007 Don David Reserve Tannat (Cafayate)

  1. $17
Controlled on the nose by blackberry, mint, menthol and fire. Like the 2008, this is not the easiest road to run, but it is a blast of penetrating blackberry, boysenberry, heat, spice and dark minty length. Tasty but tough, with the roughness and quality meeting in the middle. Drink in a couple of years.  — M.S.  (12/31/2010)

Michel Torino 2008 Don David Reserve Malbec (Cafayate)

  1. $16
Starts with rubbery, intense aromas, but with breathing it settles on earthy berry fruit and oak-driven coffee. The mouthfeel is good and shows nice lemony acids, while the flavors vascillate between tangy/floral and herbal blackberry. Sweet, concentrated and rich on the finish, with a lasting wave of mocha.  — M.S.  (8/1/2010)

  1. $17
This varietal Tannat from northern Argentina boasts ripe, rubbery aromas, lots of oak and pure blackberry power. It’s chunky in the mouth but balanced by proper acids, and the flavors of toasty, oaky dark fruits come across generous and black as night.  — M.S.  (5/1/2013)

Michel Torino 2012 Don David Reserve Torrontés (Calchaquí Valley)

  1. $17
This wine fits all the requirements for very nice Torrontés. The nose deals tangerine and pleasant bath soap aromas, while the palate is crisp and juicy, and not oily feeling. Refreshing flavors of grapefruit and tangerine lead to a zesty, as-expected finish.  — M.S.  (6/1/2013)

Michel Torino 2005 Don David Reserve Malbec (Cafayate)

  1. $15
Smooth and consistent Malbec from Cafayate is what Michel Torino is all about. Don David is a higher-aiming effort, and while it shows a touch of northern Argentina’s herbal, sun-affected characteristics, it’s also a well-balanced, formulaic Malbec that hits all the markers: good color, nice body, friendly tannins and plenty of oak.  — M.S.  (10/1/2007)
