Monte Cinco 2009 Malbec (Luján de Cuyo)

Cedar and spice are the lead aromas, and beyond that there’s blackberry, pepper and floral notes that rain complexity down on the bouquet. The palate is superrich, a bit tannic and deep as night, with black fruit, espresso, syrup and spice flavors. Finishes brawny and long, with toasty richness. Drink now through 2013.

Sweet, ripe, smooth and serious: this is top-shelf Malbec the way it should be. The bouquet is deep and brawny, with very ripe but balanced berry and toast aromas. Plum, blackberry and chocolate flavors are expansive and head straight to a fine finish that’s lengthy and rock solid. Best now into 2010.

Monte Cinco 2003 Oak Malbec (Mendoza)

A defined, balanced, artistic rendition of Malbec. Cola and hard spices mix with leather and sweet marshmallow on the bouquet, then it dishes berry pie, coffee and mocha flavors. Plenty of charcoal and chocolate create a sturdy but delectable finish. An excellent Malbec.
