Monte Faustino 2006 Red (Amarone della Valpolicella Classico)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $110
This is a lovely Amarone that promises a long cellar life ahead. The intensity and density are mind-blowing and the wine’s aromatic width spans dark fruit and prune to mesquite, brown sugar, teriyaki and smoked ham or beef jerky. It shows power, firmness, length and would pair with finely aged cheese.  — M.L.  (12/1/2011)

Monte Faustino 1998 Red (Amarone della Valpolicella Classico)

  1. $75
Opens with deep cola, menthol, cinnamon and chocolate in addition to tobacco and black fruit. Fairly sweet in the mouth, and maybe a touch too syrupy for those who prefer a drier version. Undoubtedly ripe and chocolaty, with a bit of caramel corn on the finish.  — W.E.  (11/1/2005)

Monte Faustino 2005 Red (Amarone della Valpolicella Classico)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $70
This expressive Amarone is characterized by a distinct mineral tone of slate roof or lead pencil that really sets it apart. Beyond those drying graphite tones are layers of berry fruit, mesquite, cherry cola, spice and even a milky feel. It’s a smooth, soft and velvety wine that would pair with stewed lamb or beef.  — M.L.  (2/1/2011)

Monte Faustino 2007 La Traversagna Red (Valpolicella Classico Superiore Ripasso)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $50
Aged in small oak barrels, Ripasso La Traversagna most definitely shows a worldly, sophisticated side that is marked by aromas of exotic spice, clove and mature berry. That cool crispness on the close holds the wine firmly together.  — M.L.  (12/1/2011)

Monte Faustino 2001 Red (Amarone della Valpolicella Classico)

  1. $130
Although this wine opens with a lively ruby color, it segues into tired, somewhat lifeless aromas of resin, tar, cherry liquor, earth and deep toasted notes. The wine seems to be very influenced by the wood it aged in.  — M.L.  (12/1/2007)

Monte Faustino 2005 La Traversagna Red (Valpolicella Classico Superiore Ripasso)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $30
Here’s a thin and easy-going Ripasso that starts with bright fruit aromas of cherry, blueberry and dried raspberry. There are hints of sourness, but also sweetness, and the mouthfeel is compact and bright overall.  — M.L.  (2/1/2011)
