Monteviejo 2007 Lindaflor La Violeta Malbec (Mendoza)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $100
Dark and incredibly concentrated, with earth, black fruits, mint and exotic side notes. It’s stout and tannic, but also rich and pure, with monster black fruit flavor and powerful coffee, toast and length on the finish. A smashing wine that’s huge but delicious. Drink now through 2017.  — M.S.  (10/1/2011)

Monteviejo 2006 Red (Uco Valley)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $45
A wonderful wine from the Uco Valley of Mendoza that opens with fine fruit, richness and molten earth. The palate is big as they come but not hard and out of whack, and the flavors are an amalgam of rich black plum, berry fruit, fig paste and chocolate. Smoky and sultry on the back end, with mocha and coffee for finishing notes. Drink now through 2014.  — M.S.  (8/1/2010)

Monteviejo 2004 Lindaflor Malbec (Uco Valley)

  1. $65
A fruit lover’s wine. Broad black cherry and leather aromas set up a smooth but hefty palate with deep berry flavors, spice and smoked meat. Rich but balanced, with a heaping of heavenly chocolate on the finish. A firm and structured wine with fine depth and distance.  — M.S.  (11/1/2008)

Monteviejo 2006 Lindaflor Malbec (Uco Valley)

  1. $70
At first this seems over the top (it’s 15.8%). But give the wine time and you’ll find the ultimate presentation of ripeness, richness and depth. The flavors are thick and black, with chunky black plum, prune, syrup and more. But it’s also healthy and not flabby, with balance and a sense of being. Excellent if you like monster reds.  — M.S.  (12/31/2010)

Monteviejo 2008 Lindaflor Petite Fleur Red (Mendoza)

  1. $30
Ripe blackberry aromas are accented by herbal notes, tomato, cedar and tobacco. The palate is full and walled in by big tannins, while the flavor profile is ripe, masculine and centered on black fruit, mocha and coffee. Toasty and oaky late, with tobacco on the finish. A serious wine with obvious qualities.  — M.S.  (11/1/2011)

Monteviejo 2003 Lindaflor Malbec (Uco Valley)

  1. $65
Super concentrated yet holding its own after six years, this is one dark, oily beast of a Malbec. It's wall-to-wall in terms of saturated black fruit, and the chunky, tannic palate certainly gives you something to work on. Brawny on the finish and big and raisiny as a whole.  — M.S.  (11/1/2009)

Monteviejo 2009 Lindaflor Chardonnay (Mendoza)

  1. $45
Yellow in color, with baked corn, heavy oak and implied sweetness on the bouquet. The palate is almost syrupy in feel, with sugary flavors of baked pear, apple and butterscotch. Finishes weighty and heavy; almost like a late-harvest wine. Drink immediately.  — M.S.  (11/1/2011)

Monteviejo 2008 Lindaflor Chardonnay (Mendoza)

  1. $45
The question is how much oak can you handle? If you like a heavily toasted, resiny type of full-bodied Chardonnay, add two or three points. If you absolutely hate that style, then subtract a few points. For those of us in between, look for resiny, toasty, heavy aromas on top of a thick, chewy palate full of baked apple and tons of wood spice. One-dimensional but…  — M.S.  (11/1/2010)
