Steady and sturdy wins the race for this Shiraz. The dusty-clay-chalk aromas preface a surge of blackberries on the palate, which are joined immediately with more rocks and dust. Shows class and restraint, with nary a lick of obvious toast. Imported by Australian Wine Connection.

This medium-bodied Chard has nice oregano and thyme notes on the nose, with more fresh herbal accents on the palate. Cream and nutmeg flavors are most prevalent in the mouth; finishes with pleasant floury-nutmeg notes.

Morgan Simpson 2002 Row 42 Cabernet Sauvignon (McLaren Vale)

This wine gets full credit for its smooth, eraser-like tannins—the feel is just lovely, as are eucalyptus and black pepper aromas. All of these signs point to excellence, but the palate is a little disappointing, with sourish fruit and a strange watermelon note continuing through the finish. Morgan Simpson 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon (McLaren Vale)

With a nose of tomato and herbs and so little fruit, you immediately question this wine’s ripeness. Sour cherry flavors are strong on the palate, which is quite green at its core. The wine has a good enough mouthfeel but neither the flavors nor richness to match.
