Morgante 2006 Don Antonio Nero d’Avola (Sicilia)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $40
Morgante’s Don Antonio is a wine that faithfully mirrors the growing success of Sicily. It’s been around long enough to provide a model for younger vintners and it’s quality remains excellent, thanks to a dense, inky texture and bright aromas of dark cherry and toasted almond.  — M.L.  (4/1/2012)

Morgante 2003 Don Antonio Nero d’Avola (Sicilia)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $28
Hats off to Don Antonio and this tight, ripe and concentrated red that ages 12 months in oak. Leather, prunes, cherry, charcoal and wet earth shape a bold, blockbuster Sicilian red; wood tones add texture and richness in the mouth where the wine caresses with its silky tannins. Drink now. Imported by Winebow.  — M.L.  (7/1/2006)

Morgante 1999 Don Antonio Nero d’Avola (Sicilia)

  1. $30
Black raspberry and sweet cinnamon-toast aromas lure you into the glass. The alcohol is 14%, but the intense dark fruit and substantial tannins give it balance. Delicious now but will age well for a number of years.  — C.S.  (5/1/2002)

Morgante 2008 Nero d’Avola (Sicilia)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $17
Morgante is an excellent Sicilian estate that has shown consistency in quality throughout the years. This fruit-filled Nero d’Avola would pair well with veal encrusted with chopped pistachio or pork marinated in garlic and rosemary. Aromas here include wild fruit, cassis and black currant.  — M.L.  (4/1/2012)

Morgante 2004 Nero d’Avola (Sicilia)

A young wine that showed very well thanks to its bursting ripe fruit, crushed black pepper, and toasty nuttiness. The tannins are lusciously soft and the wine’s medium body make it an excellent drink-now proposition. Imported by Winebow.  — M.L.  (9/1/2005)

Morgante 2003 Don Antonio Nero d’Avola (Sicilia)

  1. $30
You can usually count Don Antonio as one of Sicily’s very best Nero d’Avolas. But the 2003 heat seems to have left a slight jammy quality that butts awkwardly against the blackberry and crunchy toasted almond. The tannic structure is firm, which bodes well for its evolution over time. Imported by Winebow.  — M.L.  (9/1/2005)
