Morlanda 2007 Criança Red (Priorat)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $48
It has taken a few years but Morlanda has reached a nice place with this wine. Look for ripeness and concentrated black fruit aromas, and then a ripe palate with herbal blackberry and chocolate. Smooth on the finish, with a tiny bit of burn. Drink now through 2014.  — M.S.  (2/1/2012)

Morlanda 2000 Vi de Guarda Red (Priorat)

  1. $48
A touch creamy and lactic at first, but it picks up leathery, more rustic notes with airing. Flavors of plum, blackberry and broad-grained oak lead into a spicy finish with both cinnamon and tree-bark notes. Maybe it’s a bit basic, but it’s juicy, well made and tasty.  — M.S.  (3/1/2004)

Morlanda 2004 Criança Red (Priorat)

  1. $48
Aromas of rubber, leafy red fruit and herbal raspberry are solid. It’s crisp in the mouth, with raspy tannins supporting tight cherry and raspberry flavors. Finishes like it flows, with firm acidity and zest more than richness, leaving a hint of creamy vanilla and heat as it fades away.  — M.S.  (12/15/2008)

Morlanda 2002 Vi de Guarda Red (Priorat)

  1. $48
Hard and rubbery at first; the nose requires a lot of patience. Those who have it will be rewarded with candied red fruit and a buttery, oaky finish. Somewhat of a unique, odd style for Priorat, with a broader, less mineral character. Imported by Freixenet USA.  — M.S.  (10/1/2005)

Morlanda 1998 Crianza Red (Priorat)

  1. $46
Overtly, overwhelmingly oaky, a shot at the international style, this red from the hot region of Priorat just doesn’t go anywhere beyond the wood. From stem to stern, the coconut-toasty oak renders all other elements subservient to an extent that grape and location are rendered irrelevant. —M.M.  — M.M.  (9/1/2002)

Morlanda 2001 Criança Red (Priorat)

  1. $48
Light in color, with some cloudiness. On the nose it’s fairly lean and herbal, more similar to French Cabernet Franc or Pinot Noir than your typical muscular Priorat. Flavorwise, expect raisin and raspberry notes before a short, spicy finish.  — M.S.  (3/1/2005)
