Mud House 2008 Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough)

  1. $15
A lush, tropical style of Sauvignon, combining peach and guava aromas with passion fruit flavors. This is delicious right now for its immediate fruit, ample weight and slightly creamy texture.  — J.C.  (5/1/2009)

Mud House 2008 Swan Pinot Noir (Central Otago)

  1. $25
A sturdy, slightly chunky wine, the 2008 Swan Pinot Noir features ample black cherry and plum fruit, and complementary coffee-tinged oak. With its dark color and assertive flavors, it’s certainly trying hard. Drink now–2015.  — J.C.  (4/1/2011)

Mud House 2008 Pinot Noir (Central Otago)

  1. $19
Mud House winemaker Nadine Worley has turned out an authoritatively flavored 2008 Pinot Noir, loaded with tart cherries and a hint of citrus zest. While this medium-bodied Pinot Noir could use greater doses of delicacy and nuance, it’s still a flavorful mouthful of wine. Drink it over the next few years.  — J.C.  (4/1/2011)

Mud House 2007 Swan Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough)

  1. $19
Sweaty and pungent, loaded with overtones of crushed tomato leaf, this is an assertively herbal wine that requires careful food pairing, or a healthy preference for that style. It’s not terribly weighty, but shows nice leafy complexity and a hint of curranty fruit. Try it with mussels steamed with lots of fresh herbs.  — J.C.  (3/1/2009)

Mud House 2007 Swan Pinot Noir (Central Otago)

  1. $25
Sourced from the slightly warmer Bendigo subregion, this is a round, rather full-bodied Pinot Noir with dark fruit flavors and accents of smoke and cedar. It seems a bit woody in style, but may improve with short-term (1–2 years) cellaring.  — J.C.  (5/1/2009)

Mud House 2010 The Mound Vineyard Riesling (Waipara)

  1. $22
Broad and off dry, this is bulky for Riesling, with weighty notes of honey and stone fruit. There’s a pleasant whiff of mossy stones and a hint of petrol, but also a hint of bitterness on the finish.  — J.C.  (4/1/2012)

Mud House 2007 Pinot Noir (Central Otago)

  1. $20
This is made in a plump, cheerful style, combining simple, jammy cherry fruit with ample vanilla. It’s a well-made wine, but one that comes across as somewhat lacking in dimension. For an entry-level Pinot Noir, perhaps that’s all one can expect.  — J.C.  (5/1/2009)
