Navarro Correas 2003 Colección Privada Malbec (Mendoza)

  • Best Buy
  1. $10
Jammy and fresh, with hints of raspberry and rhubarb. In the mouth, it’s fairly rich, with black plum and chocolate. It successfully plays both sides of the fence: It’s medium-weight and not overdone, yet it packs punch and offers layers of creamy fruit. A high-water mark for this winery.  — M.S.  (3/1/2005)

Navarro Correas 2001 Gran Reserva Altos del Rio Malbec (Mendoza)

  1. $23
Deeply colored, with a potent bouquet of leather, earth, lavender, chocolate and boysenberry. Tastes and feels fresh, courtesy of pulsing acidity. That same acidity works to amplify the berry-cherry fruit, which is nicely accented by notes of coffee. One of NC’s best Malbec efforts we’ve tried.  — M.S.  (12/1/2003)

Navarro Correas 2001 Gran Reserva Altos del Rio Cabernet Sauvignon (Mendoza)

  1. $23
Big and attractive, with a nice blend of black cherry, rose petal, cinnamon and rubber. Quite bright on the palate, with cherry, blackberry, coffee and chocolate. With all these descriptors you can see that it’s flavorful. It’s also spunky and fairly dark.  — M.S.  (2/1/2004)

Navarro Correas 2001 Ultra Red (Mendoza)

  1. $27
Aromatic, with blueberry and dried jerky scents. Good fruit with earthy, chocolaty nuances creates a pretty palate that follows the nose nicely. On the downside, it turns thin toward the end. But it manages to stay juicy; in some ways it tastes like Zinfandel.  — M.S.  (2/1/2004)

Navarro Correas 2002 Colección Privada Cabernet Sauvignon (Mendoza)

  • Best Buy
  1. $11
A touch of rubber mixes with aromas of cassis and blackberry to set the stage for a juicy, fresh palate loaded with cherry and plum flavors. Nothing crazy here, just solid red wine that makes the grade at all check points. Imported by Palm Bay Imports.  — M.S.  (11/15/2005)

Navarro Correas 2000 Colección Privada Syrah (Mendoza)

  1. $16
Although this wine is more flowery in the nose than it is meaty or spicy, the flavors of blueberry, blackberry, nutmeg and chocolate work well together. And the finish is bright and powerful, with full tannins, but it isn’t overwhelming or starching.  — M.S.  (11/1/2002)

Navarro Correas 2003 Colección Privada Merlot (Mendoza)

  • Best Buy
  1. $11
Displays character and moderate richness, as any good Merlot should. The palate offers enough dark, smoky fruit to satisfy red-wine lovers, while there’s a pleasant smoothness to the mouthfeel. Finishes with a smack of hickory and smoked meat along with blackberry and zest. Imported by Palm Bay Imports.  — M.S.  (11/15/2005)

Navarro Correas 2000 Colección Privada Merlot (Mendoza)

  1. $16
That there are clear, unmistakable aromatics of smoked meats and violets could lead you into believing that this is Malbec, but it’s not. Plum, cassis and chocolate flavors push it more toward traditional Merlot, as does the airy, round finish. The tannins are full and aggressive, yet the overall balance and depth are solid.  — M.S.  (11/1/2002)
