Neudorf 2003 Home Vineyard Pinot Noir (Moutere)

Based on old (20–25-year-old) plantings of Pommard clone, this fabulous wine blends savory, spicy scents with floral elements on the nose, then delves deep into black cherries in the mouth. Rich and velvety on the palate, with powerful fruit and the structure to age. One of the best New World Pinots I’ve ever tasted.  — J.C.  (12/1/2005)

Neudorf 2003 Moutere Chardonnay (Nelson)

Neudorf’s reign as one of NZ’s top Chardonnay producers continues with this effort from its Moutere plantings. Rich melon aromas are bolstered by subtle toasty notes that are more nutty than overtly oaky, then powerful citrus fruit shines on the richly textured palate. Turns nutty again on the extended finish. Drink now–2010. The 2004 will be imported by Epic Wines.  — J.C.  (5/1/2006)

Neudorf 2008 Moutere Chardonnay (Nelson)

Score Chasers: NZ & AU 2011
The 2008 Moutere continues the run of success Neudorf has been on, offering delectable hints of buttered toast alongside subtle peach notes and grilled nuts. It’s medium to full in body, but reined in by crisp acids, with a long, mouthwatering finish. Drink now–2015, perhaps longer.  — J.C.  (4/1/2011)

Neudorf 2010 Moutere Riesling (Nelson)

  1. $27
Neudorf seems to do almost everything well, and the winery’s efforts with Riesling off the Moutere clays are no exception. It’s made in a light- to medium-bodied style, off dry, with crisp notes of lime, green apple and wet stone that linger on the mouthwatering finish.  — J.C.  (4/1/2012)

Neudorf 2007 Moutere Pinot Noir (Nelson)

  1. $48
This wine’s beautifully complex aromas include hints of brown sugar, cinnamon, dried herbs and flowers, all swirling around a core of cherry fruit. It’s medium-bodied and supple in the mouth, yet it retains a sense of power and sinewy acids that should make it drink well for 5–8 years.  — J.C.  (6/1/2011)

Neudorf 2001 Moutere Chardonnay (New Zealand)

  1. $49
Pricy, but this is one of NZ’s top Chardonnays, and production is quite small. Subtle smoke and toast accent peaches and custard, but despite the lush aromas and plumpness, strong citrusy acids keep it all in balance. Lemon and lime last forever on the finish, rounded out by a toasty, mealy note.  — J.C.  (9/1/2003)

Neudorf 2003 Pinot Noir (Moutere)

  1. $55
Shows that great wines can be made from the 10/5 clone, with lots of dried spice and leather aromas that are balanced on the palate by a rich, sturdy core of ripe cherries. Great persistence on the finish adds another dimension. Imported by Epic Wines.  — J.C.  (12/1/2005)

Neudorf 2006 Chardonnay (Nelson)

  1. $32
Lovely scents of toasted hazelnuts, apple and lime set the stage for a top-flight Chardonnay. It’s medium- to full-bodied, round and broad in the mouth, then gains focus on the lime-driven finish. Delicious now, and should hold up well in the cellar for up to six years.  — J.C.  (12/1/2007)
