Noceto 2007 Riserva Sangiovese (Shenandoah Valley (CA))

  1. $24
Sangiovese lovers will love this wine, so superbly made by Noceto, whose focus on this oft-maligned variety has proven that persistence can pay off. The wine has brightness and depth, notes of red plum, cranberry and spice, solid structure all around and length for days. It just gets better and better in the glass and at $24 is a fair price for a food-friendly wine…  — V.B.  (11/1/2011)

Noceto 2008 Marmellata Sangiovese (Shenandoah Valley (CA))

  1. $28
This 100% Sangiovese from this Sierra Foothills Sangiovese specialist has a giant mouthfeel, full of plummy and earthy dark cherry and caramel molasses. As big as the wine is, the tannins are softened and the wine has a long finish. An excellent wine to pair with Italian sausage, risotto or so many other Italian-inspired meals.  — V.B.  (12/1/2011)

Noceto 1997 Sangiovese (Shenandoah Valley (CA))

  • Best Buy
  1. $13
One of California’s best, always a solid effort. Chianti-style wine: earth, bark, sour-cherry aromas and flavors. Lots of sweet fruit, high acidity, silky texture, very balanced. Best Buy.  — S.H.  (12/15/1999)

Noceto 2010 Frivolo Moscato (California)

  1. $16
Like taking in a fresh bouquet of flowers just in bloom, this deliciously crafted Moscato Frivolo, slightly fizzy and superlatively refreshing, is a lovely surprise at just 7% alcohol and $16. Start your night off with a glass or let it guide you through a meal, serve cold and take in its candied orange and jasmine amidst the bubbles.  — V.B.  (9/1/2011)

Noceto 2008 Misto Sangiovese (Shenandoah Valley (CA))

  • Cellar Selection
  • Online Exclusive
  1. $28
A hugely oaky, tannic Chianti-styled wine, mostly Sangiovese, that can use some more time in bottle to soften, its tannins still grippy and chewy. But clearly this is a heady wine that’ll show plenty of personality and pairing possibilities with time.  — V.B.  (12/1/2011)

Noceto 2008 Linsteadt Barbera (Shenandoah Valley (CA))

  1. $24
Noceto is a Sierra Foothills’ Sangiovese specialist but does a nice job with Barbera as well, this wine being well-integrated, not heavy-handed (13.8%) with a deft balance between acidity and fruit, mostly sweet cherry and blueberry. Very good.  — V.B.  (10/1/2011)

Noceto 2008 Normale Sangiovese (Amador County)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $17
A pretty bottle of Sangiovese in every way—great label, great aromas and bright, cranberry and cherry fruit. From one of Amador County’s steady Sangiovese specialists, the Noceto Normale also has pleasing acidity and texture and would be very welcome next to a plate of pasta or pizza or even meats off the grill.  — V.B.  (7/1/2011)

Noceto 2007 OGP - The Original Grandpere Vineyard Zinfandel (Amador County)

  1. $29
Noceto is a Sangiovese specialist in the Sierra Foothills but does a nice job with Zinfandel here, sourcing from the "original" Grandpere Vineyard, which dates back to the 1860s and which the winery says may be the oldest producing Zin vineyard in the world. The wine is classic old-vine, good and juicy with blackberry predominant, but also tannic and brambly, dusty…  — V.B.  (11/1/2011)
