This Bordeaux blend is dappled with pretty, sweet, toasty oak, but with the gentle red fruits showing through also. Not a huge wine, but a delight, supremely drinkable, with tasty toasty oak and light herb the immediate highlights.

The very limited (50 case) Nodland Reserve is all fruit from the excellent McClellan vineyard. A tasty mix of fig, plum and black cherry fruit, it sails on through the mouth, adding layers of coffee, cherry liqueur and dried leaf. Excellent concentration and depth.

Nodland Cellars 2008 Bad Attitude Red (Walla Walla Valley)

This is Merlot, with a little Cab Franc and Malbec in the blend; fragrant and soft, with incense and cinnamon in the nose and the mouth. The fruit is dark–– blackberry and black cherry––and the tannins lightly grainy. A nice toasty finish and a lick of espresso firm it up through the finish.

Nodland Cellars 2010 Bebop Riesling (Columbia Valley (WA))

This young, vibrant Riesling shows lemon and lime and grapefruit in abundance, but subtly layers in some floral highlights as well––only in the aromas, enticing enough, but actually in the flavors that run on through the lingering finish. It’s a little like chewing on flowers...in a good way.

This easy-drinking Riesling finishes dry, but still it’s relatively soft, with green apple fruit and some spicy skin phenolics. Good balance and gentle persistence through a clean finish.

An interesting wine for Carmenère aficionados. Varietal herb and peppery spice shine through the tart, wild berry fruit. Plenty of acidity gives a lick of citrus through a lightly toasty finish.

This is drinking very well, with plenty of peppery spice around mature, soft, light fruit. It’s a nicely-balanced effort, with tart red fruits, pepper, dried leaf, and just a little heat from the (surprisingly high) alcohol, listed at 14.9%. Drink up.
