Norman 2000 Old Vine Zinfandel Port (Cucamonga Valley)

  1. $20
Sure is sweet, with a super-sugary blast of late-harvest blackberry, caramel and toffee-coffee flavors. Yet there’s a good cut of acidity to balance. Try with vanilla ice cream.  — S.H.  (12/15/2004)

Norman 2003 Vino Rosado Dry Rosé (Paso Robles)

  1. $15
There are a lot of blush wines on the market these days, and this is a nice one. It’s completely dry, with intriguing flavors of raspberries, spices and herbs. Very delicate and rich, with real complexity. Grenache and Syrah.  — S.H.  (12/1/2004)

Norman 2002 The Monster Zinfandel (Paso Robles)

  1. $20
Don’t look for finesse in a wine called “the monster.” It’s truly Hulkian in wild, brambly berry and pepper fruit and high in alcohol. It’s also mercifully dry.  — S.H.  (11/15/2004)

Norman 2003 The Vocation Red (Paso Robles)

  1. $32
A blend of Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Petite Sirah, this wine shows a rustic but easy drinking quality. It’s fairly tannic, with a long finish of cherries, blackberries and spiced coffee.  — S.H.  (12/15/2006)

Norman 2003 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Paso Robles)

  1. $36
Shows the soft lusciousness of Paso, and also the ultraripe fruit that pushes the blackberries and cherries into baked pie filling territory. The wine is dry and fairly tannic, but not so much that a grilled sirloin won’t easily handle it.  — S.H.  (12/15/2006)

Norman 2002 Syrah (Paso Robles)

  1. $20
Strives for class and finesse with its moderate alcohol, dry finish, and delicate balance of plummy, coffee, tobacco and earth flavors. The tannins are still kind of edgy and rough, but there’s a nice fruity sweetness.  — S.H.  (12/15/2004)

Norman 1998 Monster Zinfandel (Paso Robles)

  1. $18
Smells very ripe, almost stewed, and it lives up to its name (The Monster) with big, rustic, extracted, alcoholic flavors. For those who like old-style Zin, with no-holds-barred power.  — P.G.  (3/1/2001)

Norman 2002 The Vocation Syrah (Paso Robles)

  1. $32
Seems to have seen a fair amount of oak, boasting copious vanilla scents and even hints of coconut layered atop ripe cherry and blackberry fruit. Bright acids and firm tannins give the finish a sharp edge.  — W.E.  (9/1/2005)
