Nova Vita 2009 Syrah (Paso Robles)

  1. $45
A very nice Syrah, with lots of ripe fruit but also a good structure. It’s rich in blackberry, cherry and cola flavors, with an earthiness suggesting mushrooms sautéed in brown butter and sprinkled with black pepper and Chinese 5 spice. Firm tannins ground it.  — S.H.  (10/1/2011)

Nova Vita 2008 Mad Russian Shiraz (Adelaide Hills)

  1. $20
Leads off with effusive blueberry aromas tinged with stone fruit, then delivers plenty of bold, primary fruit on the palate. There’s a touch of Raisinets, too, along with supple tannins and a lipsmacking finish. Easy drinking for lovers of superripe fruit over the next 2-3 years.  — J.C.  (2/1/2010)

Nova Vita 2008 Petit Verdot (Paso Robles)

  1. $45
Brims with briary blackberry fruit, spicy and ripe, enhanced with a layer of oak. It’s a little jammy and hot, and also is quite tannic, but there’s a firm nobility in there. Give it a good decant and enjoy.  — S.H.  (10/1/2011)

Nova Vita 2008 Mad Russian Pinot Noir (Adelaide Hills)

  1. $20
Busts out of the gate with bold red fruit--a mix of raspberries, cherries and strawberries that seem slightly jammy--accented by hints of vanilla and baking spices. The texture is creamy and the finish is long, but the wine does show a touch of warmth on the palate (14.5% alcohol).  — J.C.  (11/1/2009)

Nova Vita 2008 Mad Russian Sauvignon Blanc (Adelaide)

  1. $19
Fresh herbs and grapefruit are underlined by a note of resin, creating an impression at once intense and sophisticated. The palate adds lemon and guava which linger briefly on the dry finish. Try with fish and chips. Drink soon.  — W.E.  (12/31/2009)

Nova Vita 2008 Mad Russian Chardonnay (Adelaide)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $19
The Mad Russian manages to evince very ripe fig, orange and candied lemon peel fruit while maintaining a crisp, refreshing structure. Despite a shade of oiliness, the finish is quite appealing; we can only wish the lovely grapefruit and lemon candy flavors would hang around a bit longer. Drink now to one year.  — W.E.  (12/31/2009)

Nova Vita 2009 Rosé (Paso Robles)

  1. $24
Tastes sweet and sour, like Lifesaver raspberry and lemon candy, with a touch of butterscotch. It’s very rich, so if you like a little sugar in your rosés, it’s for you.  — S.H.  (4/1/2011)

Nova Vita 2008 Mad Russian Pinot Grigio (Adelaide)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $19
Fashioned in a fresher, brighter style than most Pinot Grigios, this example has pretty citrus fruit and pear accents on the nose. There’s not much concentration here, but the mouth offers an appealing nuttiness and winds down to a short-to-medium finish of stone fruit. Drink up.  — J.R.  (8/1/2010)
