Novy Family Winery is a collaboration between Adam & Dianna (Novy) Lee of Siduri Wines and Dianna’s family from Ennis, Texas. Founded in 1988, Adam & Dianna wanted the challenge of working with varietals other than Pinot Noir and the Novy’s longed to expand their involvement in the wine business according to our Novy wine reviews. Novy Family Wines are produced from grapes sourced (by the acre only, not by the ton) from a broad range of vineyards representing many of California's premier growing regions. Novy Family Wines specializes in producing single vineyard and appellation Syrah, Zinfandel, Viognier, Grenache, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay. With only 5,000 cases of Novy wines produced annually, the Novy and Lee families are able to produce wines they themselves enjoy drinking and have full control in all winery and winemaking decisions. This is a very sweet, unctuous dessert wine, with the flavor and texture of honey. Made from Viognier, it has decadent apricot, peach, tangerine and crème brûlée notes that combine in a dense, delicious mélange.

A joy to drink. It’s so sweet and unctuous in honeyed apricots, citrus fruits, sautéed bananas, vanilla custard and spices, and yet so balanced with racy acidity. You could almost drink the entire bottle with some vanilla cookies, or better yet, a banana cream pie.

A tremendous Syrah that shows how the Highlands aren’t just for Pinot Noir. Dry and peppery, it has big tannins and crisp acidity framing blackberry, black currant, blueberry and dark, unsweetened chocolate flavors. Impresses for richness, complexity and power. Now–2013.

Beautiful Syrah, dry, tannic and elegant, with a most pleasurable mouthfeel. Feels full-bodied and chewy, with blackberry, black currant, leather and tobacco flavors, finished in a swirl of Indian spices. Novy is really at the top of their Syrah game.

Super sweet, with vanilla honey, apricot preserves, tangerine tart and vanilla cream flavors. What’s not to like? Best of all is crisp, tart acidity, like a squeeze of lemon, that brightens and heightens the richness and makes it finish clean.

A very fine Syrah, dry, peppery and distinguished. Really defines the cool-climate style of the variety, a full-bodied wine with blackberry, grilled meat and sweetly smoked, sandalwood flavors. The tannins are very refined. The quality of this wine far exceeds the price. A great restaurant Syrah, but production was only 398 cases.

A spectacular Syrah, distinctly Californian in the ripe blackberry and blueberry fruit, with rich, firm tannins and a finish of spice. The tannins really mark this wine, so creamy and smooth, making the mouthfeel a delight. Drink now–2014 for youthful exuberance.

Made solidly in the Novy style of ripeness, power and sheer yummy deliciousness. The tannins are very big but finely ground, so you can drink it now, with decanting. Flavorwise, it’s all about currants, chocolate, licorice, cola and black pepper. Compelling, and should develop for a good six years.
