Oracle 2003 Sauvignon Blanc (Western Cape)
Best Buy
Price
$8
Impressive, with good tang and surprising persistence. Tends towards the crisper Sauvignon Blanc style in aromas and flavors, but a fairly round, smooth mouthfeel provides a nice counterpoint, and subtle figgy notes keep the sharper elements in check. Focused and tasty.

Oracle 2002 Pinotage (Western Cape)
Best Buy
Price
$8
Rich, juicy Pinotage from Aussie Linley Schultz, über-winemaker at Distell. The grape’s harder-to-handle elements are neatly restrained, becoming interesting accents here. Displays a ripe feel, dark fruit with Bordeaux-like tobacco shadings, and a smooth finish. More renditions like this will expand the grape’s possibilites and make it more friends.

Oracle 2002 Shiraz (Western Cape)
Best Buy
Price
$8
Solid, tart-sweet fruit shines in this flavorful Western Cape Shiraz. Winemaker Linley Schultz’s confident hand shows in the judicious use of oak, balanced mouthfeel and tasty, lingering close. Shows some complexity and the structure to evolve. Enjoy through 2007, maybe longer.

Oracle 2006 Of The Sun Shiraz (Western Cape)
Best Buy
Price
$10
The earthy cigar box, tobacco and spice aromas on the nose of this Shiraz are both distinctive and attractive, though on the palate, the wine could use a touch more complexity. It’s a good wine with enticing flavors of berry, smoke and spice—I just want more of what’s working here. A great selection for everything from grilled meat to Mexican dishes.

Oracle 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon (Western Cape)
Online Exclusive
Price
$8
Curious, with some dark sweet fruit and spice accents, but also a less enjoyable, sharp tart note that really takes over. Shows decent mouthfeel and even tannins, but the bitter element predominates, leaving a strong sour aftertaste.
