Executed in a plump, modern style (the wine is aged in small oak barrique), this delicious cru expression from Barbaresco is truly irresistible. The extraction is dark, thick and redolent of cherry, currant, blackberry, vanilla, spice and cinnamon. In the mouth, it is generous, smooth and long-lasting. This wine will appeal to modernists more than traditionalists.

From young vintner Giovanni Abrigo in the Treiso area, this is a lovely expression of Barbaresco with immediate aromas of cherry, cassis, spice, smoke, leather and tobacco. The wine is approachable now, but it’s also built to last: natural concentration, bright fruit flavors and acidity will hold ten years or more.

Here is a lovely Barbaresco that delivers dark pulp and concentration followed by intense aromas of dark fruit, prune, spice, leather, bramble and cigar box. What helps make this wine stand out is its smooth, rich and enduring texture.

Orlando Abrigo consistently delivers bold, full-bodied expressions of Nebbiolo and this vineyard-designate Barbaresco is no exception. You could say that the wine has “good bones” thanks to the firmness of its tannic structure and the boldness of its blackberry, cassis and spice flavors.

Nice complexity and vertical aromas of cola, licorice and cherry liqueur open the nose of this Riserva Barbaresco. The wine’s aromatic characteristics are very much in line with classic Nebbiolo and there’s a pungent or immediate quality as well. In the mouth, it shows dense, chewy consistency.

Round and supple, this opens with dark concentration and fresh tones of espresso bean and toasted nut. The underlying fruit and acidity is here—as is the firmness of the tannins. Cellar this for 10 more years.

Aromas of chocolate and toasted hazelnut open the bouquet of this darkly concentrated wine. The palate offers a cherry flavor, with plush softness, chewy tannins and flavorful intensity.

The Mervisano Barbera d’Alba (that ages 15 months in oak) offers a deliciously ripe and rich array of spice, black fruit and blackberry. The wine shows dark, inky concentration with creamy fruit tones and warm smoothness on the finish. The acidity is present, but very well integrated.
