Oveja Negra 2011 Reserva Sauvignon Blanc-Carmenère White (Maule Valley)

  1. $12
Mild and appealing on the nose, with just enough citrus to convince you that it’s Sauvignon Blanc. Solid and not at all spritzy or wild feeling, with gooseberry, lime and passion fruit flavors. Finishes pithy but true, with lasting citrus and green herb notes.  — M.S.  (2/1/2012)

Oveja Negra 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon-Syrah (Central Valley)

  • Best Buy
  1. $8
The start is a bit foresty but under the microscope this blend has the chops to deserve a Best Buy call out. The palate is perfectly ripe and loaded with plum, berry and vanilla from the oak. It is easy to take and finishes in clean, medium-length fashion. Nothing complicated; just a good-drinking red wine for not much cash.  — M.S.  (9/1/2007)

Oveja Negra 2008 The Lost Barrel Red (Maule Valley)

  1. $25
Wiry on the nose, with herbal, punchy, slightly strained red fruit aromas that suggest rhubarb. The palate is amorphous and standard, with lightly baked, mildly stewy blackberry and herbal flavors. On the finish, it’s pure tobacco, chocolate and coffee. Syrah, Carignan, Carmenère and Petit Verdot.  — M.S.  (6/1/2011)
