Palacio de La Vega 2000 Conde de La Vega Selección Privada Red (Navarra)
Price
$20
Aromas of plum, cherry and licorice are good, although some obvious bell pepper gets in there as well. Raspberry and cherry carry the palate, but again there’s an infusion of green, which one frequently sees in the wines of Navarra. Carob and earth soften the electric, high-wire finish.

Palacio de La Vega 2000 Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon (Navarra)
Price
$13
Full of plum and berry, with plenty of dill pickle as well. That said, it’s not vegetal. Cola, cranberry and cherry come on strong across the palate. In total it’s an aggressive wine with an obvious tannic side to it.

Palacio de La Vega 2000 Crianza Cabernet Sauvignon-Tempranillo (Navarra)
Online Exclusive
Price
$9
Rusty and flat, with aromas of lettuce, celery and other dry greens. Some cherry and plum carry the palate, while the finish is dry and simple. Starchy in terms of feel.

Palacio de La Vega 1999 Reserva Tempranillo (Navarra)
Price
$13
Too much funk and animal on the nose, which is followed by a heavy palate of red fruit pumped forward by clamp-down tannins. Patient swirling helps it open up, but how much time should you have to give it?
