This cleverly named wine, which is a blend of several vineyards, is an astounding value. It comes very close to the quality of Pali’s single-vineyard, far more expensive Pinots, with complex cherry, cola and smoky cedar flavors. Absolutely one of the best under-$20 Pinots in California.

Very delicious and savory if a little hot in alcohol, this has flavors of raspberry and cherry jam, buttery pie crust and vanilla that are flecked with red pepper flakes. It’s not an ager, but it is an elegant, flashy wine for pairing with tuna, lamb or steak.

Shows the clean, citrus acid juiciness and silky texture of the appellation and is totally dry. But you’ll find ripe cherry, currant, pomegranate, peppermint tea, mineral and smoky oak flavors that finish complex and satisfying. Brilliant and versatile at the table.

A polished, soft Cabernet blend with Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. It’s particularly smooth in the mouth, with lush tannins framing blackberry, currant and cedar flavors. Drinks rich and complex now and for a few more years.

There is lots to like in this Chablis-like Chardonnay. It’s dry, bright in acidity and minerally, with an undercurrent of citrus, Asian pear and tropical fruit flavors. Oak plays a subtle but essential part in the wine’s richness.

Shows the firm acidity, elegant silkiness and richness of the southern part of Russian River Valley, where the grapes were grown. The cherry, cola, pomegranate, rhubarb, herb-mint tea and peppercorn flavors are complex, and finish with a tannic scour.

This is interesting—a California take on Oregon Pinot Noir. It’s sleek and spicy, with a racy spine and a very tart, dry mouthfeel. The fruit is peppery and hard; like hard candy with an herbal streak. The wine hides its almost 15% alcohol quite well, but it will reward ample breathing time.

The Shea vineyard, known for its deep blackberry fruit, is chosen by at least a dozen (probably more) winemakers for single-vineyard status. This version is spicy and floral, lushly scented with cherry blossom and showing elegant, well-structured fruit. The only drawback comes on the finish: the acids seem chalky and out of balance with the rest of the wine, which…
