Paradis 2001 Cask Reserve/Old Vine Zinfandel (Lodi)
Best Buy
Price
$12
Tastes like Zin, but the back label says it’s Syrah. We’ll believe the front label for this pleasant, moderate-bodied wine that sports ripe raspberry, spice, plum, licorice, toast and vanilla flavors. Soft tannins keep the finish smooth.

Paradis 1997 Woodbridge Ranch Merlot (California)

Dusty and earthy, with aromas of slightly raisined fruit, chocolate and a hint of fresh herbs. The modest dark berry fruit is overwhelmed on the palate by strong earth flavors, but the mouthfeel is generous and smooth. Best Buy.

Paradis 1999 Woodbridge Ranch Chardonnay (California)
Price
$10
Earthy, with peach and apple aromas and a funky component. Light and simple peach flavors, and decent acidity.

Paradis 1997 Woodbridge Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon (California)
Price
$12
Odd, disturbing aromas of sweet rhubarb pie start things off; then it turns medicinal and sweet in the mouth. Clean, with good acids, but seems a combination of overripe grapes and suspect winemaking. Barely drinkable.
