$54
A potent brew of raisin, blackberry, minerality and leather comes together to form a bold, very ripe bouquet. The palate is chunky and forward, with beefy tannins and full-force flavors of blackberry, black peppercorn and toast. A huge and massive wine with a sweet, toasty, ripe and candied finish. Drink now through 2014.

Giant and muscled, with potent aromas of smoke, tar, maple and prune. At 14% alcohol, not much is held back; the palate is at first sweet and rich, with the full allotment of plum, raisin and black cherry. On the finish comes mammoth tannins and some of the toastiest, burnt coffee notes you’ll find. A real bruiser with a full tank of fuel behind it.

Pasanau Germans 2000 La Morera de Montsant Red (Priorat)

Young and wild, with funky nut and mineral aromas that take some time to get used to. Once you dig in, the palate is immensely ripe and dense, with black currant and blackberry fruit. Toward the back things turn even darker and tighter, with notes of burnt sugar, leather and espresso. Huge in the mouth, with expansive tannins.

This wine will stick to your ribs, and it’ll grab your palate on the way down, leaving quite an impression. Red fruit, leather and toast create a rock-solid, ideal nose. Moderately syrupy and full-bodied, with smooth berry flavors and plenty of vanilla. Finishes long and classy. Imported by Classical Wines.
