Pegaso 2004 Barrancos de Pizarra Garnacha (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León)

Meaty and composed, with an earthy nose that carries plenty of dark fruit and minty herbal accents. The palate shows clarity and density, but it’s a touch gritty, hard and tannic. Flavors of cola, blackberry and burnt toast are masculine, while the finish is also kind of crusty and dark.

Pegaso 2002 Barrancos de Pizarra Garnacha (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León)

With can’t-miss aromas of coconut and prune, this wine stirs memories of tanning oil and fruitcake. It’s big, bold and earthy, but also mildly herbal. The palate tastes of black fruit as well as dill and pepper, and the mouthfeel is convincing. Too bad the oak is still so pronounced.
