Peju Province 2002 Reserve Zinfandel (Napa Valley)

  1. $45
It’s tempting to score this wine even higher, because it’s so decadently delicious. Just oozes chocolate, cassis, pecan pie, French roast coffee and vanilla flavors, wrapped in ripe, soft tannins. The quibble is that it finishes as sweet as a dessert wine, although it’s probably technically dry.  — S.H.  (3/1/2005)

Peju Province 2001 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Rutherford)

  1. $85
Ripe, soft and hedonistic, an instantly likeable wine for its sheer opulence. Just bursting with sweet cherry, blackberry, milk chocolate and smoky oak flavors wrapped in sweet, smooth tannins. Drinking absolutely beautiful now and throughout the next ten years.  — S.H.  (10/1/2004)

Peju Province 2002 Zinfandel (Napa Valley)

  1. $25
From a winery that’s doing just about everything right these days, a rich and polished Zin. Floods the mouth with ripe cherry, plum, blackberry, cocoa and peppery spice flavors. The texture is smooth and complex.  — S.H.  (3/1/2005)

Peju Province 2001 Estate Syrah (Napa Valley)

  1. $32
Pretty tannic at this point, but you’ll find ripe black cherry and sweet oak flavors poking through. There’s also a cocoa note that adds richness. Calls for a good steak, preferably barbecued.  — S.H.  (3/1/2005)

Peju Province 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

  1. $40
The grapes got really ripe here, so ripe that the wine tastes like melted blackberry and cherry jam, drizzled with cassis liqueur and vanilla extract, and with a curiously briny, salty finish. Could come together, but right now, pretty direct and simple.  — S.H.  (3/1/2008)

Peju Province 2002 Syrah (Napa Valley)

  1. $32
Simple, clean and likeable, with blackberry and pepper notes, medium body and supple tannins. Pepper comes on strong on the finish.  — W.E.  (9/1/2005)
