A fresh, lively Chardonnay, filled with juicy flavors of lemons and peaches, enriched by toasty oak and a creamy texture. Long finish.  — S.H.  (5/1/2003)

Perbacco Cellars 2004 Laetitia Vineyard Pinot Grigio (Arroyo Grande Valley)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $18
The vineyard is one of the coolest in California, and that maritime influence shows in the intense, citrusy acidity that really perks up the palate. The flavors are also intense, suggesting Meyer lemon sorbet drizzled with vanilla and a hint of butterscotch. For all that, the wine is totally dry. This is one of the best California PGs of the vintage.  — S.H.  (10/1/2006)

Perbacco Cellars 2005 Chardonnay (Edna Valley)

  1. $32
Here’s a big, bright Chard notable for the purity of its acid-driven fruit. Kiwis, limes, pineapples, sweet lemongrass and peach are enriched by lees aging in new oak, leading to an impressively rich, dry finish.  — S.H.  (2/1/2007)

Perbacco Cellars 2003 Dionysus Pinot Noir (Arroyo Grande Valley)

  1. $45
Although it’s in the same style as the winery’s ’04 regular Pinot, this is far more sophisticated. It’s a big, big wine, very ripe, with strong black cherry pie, cola, chocolate and rum-drizzled raisin flavors. It has an essential balance and harmony that lend it panache.  — S.H.  (11/1/2006)

Perbacco Cellars 2005 Dionysus Pinot Noir (Arroyo Grande Valley)

  1. $55
Far richer and more concentrated than the winery’s regular ’05 Pinot, this is a true reserve. It shows the same dryness and silky texture, but the spicy fruit is more intense in cherries and black raspberries, veering into cassis and anisette. Drink now for its extravagent flavors.  — S.H.  (12/15/2007)

Perbacco Cellars 2006 Dionysus Pinot Noir (Arroyo Grande Valley)

  1. $55
The winery’s Dionysus bottling of Pinot has been a consistent high scorer. It’s made in a darker, richer, more extracted style that’s almost Rhône-like in cherry, red currant, cola and cocoa flavors. But it never loses its Pinot-esque sense of elegance and style. Drink now through 2012.  — S.H.  (12/15/2008)

Perbacco Cellars 2006 Pinot Noir (Arroyo Grande Valley)

With a dry, cool-climate elegance and acidity that makes your mouth water, this ready-to-drink Pinot is a natural for beef, pork, salmon and chicken. It’s a versatile wine, with cherry skin flavors that finish with a touch of bitterness.  — S.H.  (12/15/2008)

Perbacco Cellars 2005 Laetitia Vineyard Pinot Grigio (Arroyo Grande Valley)

  1. $19
PG needs a cool climate to preserve all-important acidity, and this outstanding vineyard, in sight of the chilly Pacific, certainly is cool. The wine is well-structured, with high, biting acidity that frames citrus, peach and apple flavors. No oak here, just fruit.  — S.H.  (12/31/2006)
