Pietrafitta 1992 Vin Santo White (Colli della Toscana Centrale)
Editors' Choice
Price
$16
The Trebbiano grapes for this delicious dessert white are hung in the attic for three months in the traditional manner. Aromas of ripe grapes, citrus fruits, butterscotch and hazelnuts yield to a nutty palate more rich than sweet. Still has plenty of acid backbone and finishes long with apricot notes.

Pietrafitta 1998 La Sughera Rosso Sangiovese (San Gimignano)
Price
$18
Built like a modern Chianti, with 90% Sangiovese supported by 10% Merlot and Cabernet, this red from the south of Tuscany is lean and dry. It has an elegant texture and feel, and black-cherry and cedar aromas and flavors. Fine tannins and a leathery note mark the finish.

Pietrafitta 2005 La Sughera Red (San Gimignano)
Sangiovese is enhanced by 20% Merlot to produce a thick, berry-driven wine with lush softness at the back. Dried earth, cassis, leather and oak spice are some of the aromas you will pick up.

Pietrafitta NA Campidonne Sangiovese (Toscana)
Online Exclusive
Campidonne is a sassy, spicy wine with loads of cinnamon, chocolate, nutmeg and spice spread over a core of black fruit and cherry. It’s smooth and compact with a bright spot of freshness on the medium finish.

Pietrafitta 1998 Sangiovese (Chianti Colli Senesi)
Best Buy
Price
$10
A traditional Chianti blend is used here, including a small proportion of white grapes, and it shows how good an inexpensive wine made well in the traditional manner can be. The ripe cherry core sports tea and spice accents, and a chalk note appears on the palate. It closes with fine tannins and a dusty rose note.

Pietrafitta 2008 La Costa Riserva Vernaccia (Vernaccia di San Gimignano)
Price
$25
La Costa Riserva, made with the zesty Vernaccia grape (one of Tuscany’s most important white wine varieties), is a big, bold wine with thick layers of banana, apricot and vanilla cream. The rich wine doesn’t feel heavy on the palate thanks to a crisp spot of acidity on the close.

Pietrafitta 1999 Borghetto White (Vernaccia di San Gimignano)
Price
$15
Aromas of grapefruit, herb and almonds open to a mouthful of melon and peach in this medium-weight dry white. It has a bit more texture than most Vernaccias, a clean, crisp finish and an attractive back perfume with a touch of bitter almond.

Pietrafitta 2009 Borghetto Vernaccia (Vernaccia di San Gimignano)
Price
$22
Borghetto delivers a soft, creamy mouthfeel with nuanced tones of apricot, pineapple, banana and dried hay. Vernaccia di San Gimignano is one of Tuscany’s most important, but ironically also overlooked, white wines.
