This lavishly oaked wine with a big fruit foundation is very much in the California style, though it is made in Piedmont. The full, smooth mouthfeel is large but not fat, and the supple palate delivers apple, caramel, spice and toast. Finshes long and toasty, with a leesy, earthy note.

Cesare’s top Chard is a winner, balancing toasty, mealy notes from oak aging with honeyed peaches from fully ripe grapes. Hints of butter garnish this full-bodied wine, which ends with mingling nuances of citrus and toasted nuts. Imported by Paterno Wines International.

Basic melon, pear and dough create a round, soft nose. Lemon, lime and some tangerine define the palate. This in a monotone wine that delivers dull flavors and some body, but nothing more.
