Piper-Heidsieck NV Cuvée Rare Réserve Brut Sparkling (Champagne)

  1. $120
This is a bone dry, deliciously mature Champagne. The fruit aromas and flavors are now submerged beneath a layer of toast. A very fine wine, packed in a beautiful bottle designed by Van Cleef and Arpels. Imported by Remy Cointreau USA.  — R.V.  (12/1/2005)

Piper-Heidsieck 1988 Cuvée Rare Réservée Brut Sparkling (Champagne)

  1. $65
When most prestige cuvées are priced in the $85–$150 range, it is gratifying to note that Piper-Heidsieck’s Rare is so reasonable. Made with 65% Pinot Noir, 35% Char-donnay, the Rare’s pedigree is flawless—all the grapes are from grand cru villages. It’s medium-bodied and quite dry, with lots of acidity to keep it young and lively.  — E.M.  (11/15/1999)

Piper-Heidsieck NV Cuvée Rare Brut Sparkling (Champagne)

  1. $120
This is styled in a relatively mature, slightly oxidized fashion. It’s round and full-bodied, with lots of oily, buttered-nut flavors. But it is not at all tired or tiring; an underpinning of crisp apple keeps it lively and fresh in the mouth. It drinks very well right now, as if it had been cellared for four or five years.  — P.G.  (12/1/2006)

Toasty aromas leap from the glass in this deliciously mature wine. It is soft but still very dry, with acidity tamed by both fine, mature fruit and a creamy texture that sits well in the mouth. This is a very fine, tasty wine. Imported by Remy Cointreau USA.  — R.V.  (12/1/2005)

Piper-Heidsieck NV Sauvage Brut Rosé Sparkling (Champagne)

  1. $45
With no dosage, this is a very dry wine that has benefited from some good bottle aging. It is also darker in color than some rosés, which gives the wine considerable body and richness. Imported by Remy Cointreau USA.  — R.V.  (12/1/2005)

Piper-Heidsieck 1998 Brut Sparkling (Champagne)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $65
Round and mildly yeasty, with vanilla, pear and toast all wrapped into a welcoming whole. The palate is full and complex, with additional vanilla coating crisp apple. This is a fuller, mouthfilling style of Champagne, one with a broad, classy finish. That said, vital acidity should ensure a full lifespan. Imported by Remy Cointreau USA.  — M.S.  (12/31/2005)

Piper-Heidsieck 1999 Rare Millesimé Brut Sparkling (Champagne)

Putting aside the bling of the gold embossed design of the bottle, this Champagne shows the light character of most Piper-Heidsieck wines. However, there is one extra element: the woody, toasty character that provides both maturity and an element of tension. Not for keeping, but a wine that comes in on the serious side of lightness.  — R.V.  (12/1/2008)

Piper-Heidsieck NV Brut Rosé Sparkling (Champagne)

  1. $44
A beautiful russet-copper color, this seductive rosé opens with a spicy nose of cranberry and baked apples, with just a whiff of SO2 still discernable. Fine, ripe, crisply defined cherry and sassafras flavors fill the midpalate, lingering into a tangy, refreshing finish.  — P.G.  (12/15/2003)
