Podere Brizio 2004 Riserva Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

  • Cellar Selection
Owned by Roberto Bellini and Patrizia Mazzi, Podere Brizio delivers a beautiful Riserva that is generous with plump cherry nuances, dried currants, cedar wood, mesquite, cola, leather and a touch of sweet vanilla. The wine is extremely smooth and silky in the mouth yet it certainly does not lack structure or power.  — M.L.  (8/1/2010)

  1. $120
This wine has some big shoulders. There’s a dusty, aged quality, with sophisticated, silky tannins and tertiary aromas of black licorice, dried tobacco, peppercorn and dried berry fruit. It’s firm, tight and compact; age 10 more years.  — M.L.  (5/1/2012)

Podere Brizio 2005 Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

Creamy and luscious with sweet fruit tones backed by layers of spice and tobacco, this wine does a nice job of showcasing the 2005 vintage of Brunello. The wine is less expressive in the mouth, where it shows a lean, compact feel with bright acidity. A Marc de Grazia selection; various American importers.  — M.L.  (10/1/2010)

Podere Brizio 2003 Sangiovese (Brunello di Montalcino)

  • Online Exclusive
This boasts a pretty ruby color and a clean delivery of aromas to create an elegant and balanced whole. Vanilla, Amaretto, balsam notes, lavender and sweet cherry characterize the nose and are backed by distant tones of smoke and campfire. You do, however, come away from the wine with the impression that the fruit was picked ripe.  — M.L.  (3/1/2008)
