Podere La Vigna 2004 Riserva Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)
Here’s a dark and brooding Brunello Riserva with modern tones of succulent fruit backed by sophisticated notes of spice, toast, chocolate and cola. This is definitely a bigger style with a bold and determined approach that also offers elegance and harmony.

A dark, garnet-colored appearance with brooding, masculine tones of spice, ripe fruit, dark cherry, as well as beautiful balsam notes of cola, dried mint and ginger. Balanced, not overdone. Let the tannins soften with age.

Podere La Vigna 2004 Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)
You get a mouthful here: clove, spice, balsam tones, cola, eucalyptus and black fruit all come pouring out of the glass. The wine boasts an immediate and vertical rush on the senses that leaves long and lingering impressions of smoked bacon and fennel seed.

Podere La Vigna 2001 Sangiovese (Brunello di Montalcino)
Cellar Selection
Cherry, tobacco, earth, sandalwood, with balsam notes and a touch of horse saddle for a warmer, earthier veneer. The tannins are firm and drying but not aggressive and there’s some wet slate or crushed stone on the finish.

With slightly browning color on the rim, this territory-driven Brunello opens with vertical aromas of white cherry, root beer, vanilla cream and cured meat. Drink after 2015.

Podere La Vigna 2005 Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)
Here’s a thick and concentrated Brunello with meaty aromas of smoked bacon and air-dried beef. The fruit notes are on the mature, jammy side and there’s also a hint of wet earth or white mushroom that is typical of Sangiovese Grosso in warmer vintages like 2005. It delivers gritty, raw tannins that need a few years to unwind.

This Brunello shows aromas of leather and cured meat without much fresh fruit to hold it up. The structure and acidity is there, along with tertiary aromas of crushed mineral, asphalt, candied fruit and dried sage.

Here’s a simple, brambly expression of Sangiovese Grosso, with bright acidity and lively notes of forest berry and moist earth. This wine has a smoky touch of toasted almond on the close.
