Poggio San Polo 2001 Sangiovese (Brunello di Montalcino)

Black cherry cola, forest floor, coffee, wet tobacco and drying wood notes with a hint of wild mushroom are firmly fastened to a medium-structured wine with a eucalyptus-laden finish.  — W.E.  (4/1/2006)

Poggio San Polo 2004 Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

  • Online Exclusive
Initial traces of smoky sulfur need to blow off and once they do this Brunello freely exhibits tones of blackberry, prunes and smoked bacon. The wine is a tad gritty and astringent in the mouth, so give it five more years of aging to soften those tannins.  — M.L.  (6/1/2009)
