A little rubbery at first, but then it unfolds with floral, blackberry and tar aromas. Fairly dynamic in terms of feel, with elevated red-fruit flavors balanced by oak and chocolate. Firm and peppery on the back end, with lasting notes of cassis. For $15 this is pretty fine Cabernet. Imported by Republic National Distributors.

Dry, barrel-influenced and solid on the nose, with tempered aromas of black cherry and berry. The palate is juicy and shows good physical definition, while the flavors of raspberry and plum are good. Straight-ahead and solid on the finish.

Raspberry, tomato leaf and a spot of rhubarb give the nose a crisp outlook. The palate is zesty and linear, with herbal strawberry and raspberry flavors kissed by oak-based mocha. Creamy on the finish, with spice more than residual fruit. A nice ride, and solid for Carmenère. Imported by Republic National Distributors.

Very nice value-priced Cabernet. It’s warm and a bit mossy on the nose, with berry jam and leather. The palate is crisp, but also easy to understand. Tight flavors of cherry and raspberry give it a “red” outlook, and the finish is also tight and peppery. Imported by Republic National Distributors.

Compact and solid on the nose, with good fruit, earth and vitality. The mouthfeel is relatively strong, while the flavor profile is bright, sunny and topped with raspberry, cassis and cherry. Mild chocolate, berry and herb notes work the uncomplicated finish. 40% Cabernet Sauvignon with 30% Carmenère, Merlot and Syrah.

Rubber, sandalwood and spiced black plum aromas provide a good starting point, while the palate is grabby in feel but bright and focused in terms of berry fruit. An intense young wine with subtle chocolate flavors and smooth tannins on the finish.

This individualistic Chardonnay has a lot to offer. The nose is ripe, with floral, honey and even petrol notes and opens to a palate of tangerine and lychee nut-like flavors. The mouthfeel is round and smooth; the sweet and sour finish, dry and spicy. Reminiscent of some Alsatian whites and worthy of notice for its flavorful uniqueness.

Alejandro Hernandez, professor of viticulture and oenology at Chile's Catholic University, produced this attractive bottle of Chardonnay to drink tonight. Aromas of toasted oak, apple and pineapple open. The viscous mouthfeel is supported by crisp acidity. Offers a long apple-pineapple finish with a butterscotch finale.
