  1. $55
An enormous Cabernet, but it’s not simply the power of its fruit that’s so impressive. Shows massive blackberry, blueberry, crème de cassis and oak flavors packed into profoundly beautiful tannins. The fruit is so sweet that it’s surprising how dry the finish is. The winemaker, Ted Henry, also is at the helm of Jarvis. This young Cabernet should develop over the…  — S.H.  (4/1/2012)

Prime 2006 District 4 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

  1. $39
A beautiful Cabernet that gives a nod to Bordeaux in its earthy dryness and moderate alcohol. There are plenty of blackberries, cherries and currants, but also notes of violets, mushrooms and herbs that make it complex. Fresh acidity and thick tannins provide structure to this wine, which comes from the cooler districts of Oakville and Coombsville. Now–2014.  — S.H.  (2/1/2010)

Prime 2007 District 4 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

  1. $39
A very good Cab, dry, full-bodied and fruity. The tannins are thick and hard, making it difficult to savor the underlying blackberries, black cherries, blueberries and dark chocolate. If you drink it now, decant. Otherwise, try over the next 4–6 years.  — S.H.  (7/1/2010)

Prime 2007 Midoriya Hills Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

  1. $55
Heavy and densely tannic now, and not showing its best. It’s an embryonic Cabernet that’s all about potential. Analysis reveals deep, buried flavors of blackberries, black currants and cedar that are impressively potent. Needs a bit of time to come around. Try in 2013.  — S.H.  (7/1/2010)

  1. $39
A very good Cabernet, with ripe blackberry, currant, anise and oak flavors. Despite firm tannins, it doesn’t seem to be an ager, but it is an elegant, complex young wine to drink over the next year or two.  — S.H.  (4/1/2012)

Prime 2008 District 4 Chardonnay (Napa Valley)

  1. $24
Shows a Chablis-like steely, minerally dryness, with subtle notes of lemons, limes and grapefruits. Marked by firm acids, it’s an elegant wine of great structure and integrity, meant for drinking now.  — S.H.  (7/1/2010)

Prime 2005 District 4 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

  1. $39
This inaugural release is pretty good, made in the international or cult style of softness, extreme ripeness and early palate appeal. It’s forward in jammy cherry, black currant and plum flavors.  — S.H.  (3/1/2009)
